Bus Driver Assault - Nightcliff

Police

A 17-year-old male youth has been charged with ‘assault a worker who suffers harm’ after allegedly assaulting a bus driver in Nightcliff last night.

Senior Sergeant Garry Smith said the youth boarded the bus at Mindil Beach and travelled to Aralia Street, where the incident occurred.

“It is alleged the youth approached the 40-year-old male driver with a clenched fist and punched him to the face,” Senior Sergeant Smith said.

“Transit Security Officers attended within a short time and apprehended the youth.

“He was charged this morning and is to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court at a later date.

“This type of cowardly behaviour will not be tolerated and Police will continue working closely with Transit Security Officers and bus drivers to see these offenders put behind bars.”
