Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in relation to the alleged assault of a 31-year-old man in Darwin City last night.

Acting Senior Sergeant Robert DeVos said the alleged offender approached the victim at a take away store on the corner of Knuckey and  Mitchell Street at around 11:45pm.

“The offender allegedly punched the victim to the head several times resulting in the male victim falling to the ground unconscious.

“The offender fled the scene, however was arrested by Police a short time later after he was observed attempting to leave the area in a taxi. He remains in Police custody and is assisting with enquiries.

“The 31-year-old was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital and treated for injuries to his head and later released.”

Police urge anyone who may have been in Mitchell Street at the time and witnessed this assault, or anyone with information to call Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
