Assault Charges - Casuarina

A 25-year-old man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court this afternoon following the assault of two Transit Officers and a Police Officer at Casuarina last night.

Acting Senior Sergeant Crispin Gargan said the Transit Officers, were attending an incident at a bus depot at around 10:50pm when the alleged offender approached them.

“The offender allegedly pushed one of the men and kicked the other before fleeing the scene.

“Police located and arrested the alleged offender a short time later. While the offender was being taken into custody he allegedly spat into the face of a Police Officer.

“The offender was taken to the watch house and kicked out the bottom of a cell door causing it to smash.”

He has been charged with the following offences:

Aggravated assault x2

Assault a member of the police force

Obstruct and hinder a transit officer

Escape lawful custody

Disorderly behaviour in a public place

Damage to property

Disorderly behaviour in a police station.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court at 2pm on 23August 2013.
