Alleged Sex Offender Arrested - Darwin City

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad have arrested a 36-year-old man in relation to an alleged sexual assault of a woman on Manton Street in the Darwin CBD on September 18.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson said the arrest was the culmination of a tireless investigation by a team of Detectives and Officers from the Forensic Services Branch.

“Northern Territory Police treat any reported crimes of this nature very seriously and encourage public assistance to ensure we prevent such crimes occurring.

“We do encourage people to be vigilant when walking around at night however people are entitled to feel safe when walking our streets.”

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Sanderson said Police would like to thank members of the public who provided valuable information to assist with this investigation.

“The smallest piece of information can lead to the identification of an offender and the prevention of further offending.”

The man is facing charges of aggravated assault and indecent assault and it is expected that he will be charged later today.
