Aggravated Assault Charges - Alice Springs

Detectives from Strike Force Halberd have charged a 39-year-old man for the alleged aggravated assault of a 42-year-old woman.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police will allege that the offender, who was intoxicated at the time, struck the victim to the head repeatedly with a metal bar, whilst at a residence in Little Sister Camp on Monday.

“The woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital to received treatment for her injuries. The offender was arrested by Police a short time later.

“He has been charged with aggravated assault and armed with an offensive weapon at night.”

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 12 December.

“Alice Springs Police will continue to use every available means at their disposal to target offenders who choose to resort to violence. The use of weapons, as has occurred on this occasion, is completely unacceptable,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“Detectives from Strike Force Halberd have so far made 165 arrests and cleared 397 offences and will continue to take a zero approach to domestic violence.”
