Aggravated Assault Arrest - Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested and charged a 44-year-old man following the alleged assault of a 41-year-old female on Wednesday.

Alice Springs Police arrested the intoxicated man on 6 November after members of the public saw the assault and reported the incident immediately to Police.

Superintendent Brent Warren said the woman suffered lacerations to the head and was taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

“This kind of extreme violence is unacceptable to Police and the wider community.

“We wish to thank the members of the public who recognised the dangerous situation and contacted Police, in particular the actions of one witness who stopped her car and called out for the offender to stop.”

Superintendent Warren said investigators from Strike Force Halberd charged the man with aggravated assault, going armed with an offensive weapon and contravening a Domestic Violence Order.

“Alice Springs Police will continue to target domestic violence assaults and vigorously enforce court issued Domestic Violence Orders to keep the community safe.”

The man has been remanded in custody to appear before the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 21 November 2013.
