Adelaide River Races Wrap Up

Police

Despite the large crowd, Police report that patrons at the Adelaide River Races were generally very well behaved.

Acting Superintendent Neville Pulford said approximately 2,500 people attended the races on Saturday and everyone appeared to enjoy the occasion, although a few still decided to drink and drive.

“Police from Adelaide River, Pine Creek, Katherine, Batchelor and Jabiru were out in force and conducted a total of 1,098 Road Side Breath Tests both on Saturday night and throughout Sunday morning,” Acting Superintendent Pulford said.

“Of the near 1,100 tested, 16 were apprehended for Driving Under the Influence. Of those, 14 were apprehended Sunday morning, attempting to drive from area. Police issued eight Notices to Appear in Court, seven of those were for drive mid range Breath Alcohol Content (BAC) and one was for drive low range BAC.

“Police conveyed 25 people home or to a place of safety and two had to be taken into protective custody.

“These events are a great opportunity for people from all walks of life to get together and have a good time. Thankfully the irresponsible actions of a few didn’t spoil the fun for the masses.”
