62 year-old to face indecent dealing charges

Police

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division have arrested a 62 year-old man from Palmerston after child abuse images were uncovered in a sports bag that had been handed to Police.

Detective Senior Constable First Class Corey Borton said the bag had been found in a shopping centre carpark.

“In an attempt to find the owner the person has instead found images he described as ‘disturbing.’  He has immediately handed the bag over to Police.

“The bag contained a digital camera, thumb drives, compact discs and printed images.  The alleged offender was identified from other items in the bag and arrested on Friday April 5.”

Detective Senior Constable Borton said the man will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today charged with indecent dealings with a child under ten, production of child abuse material, possess child abuse material, using a child for production of child abuse material and gross indecency in a public place.

“What has Police deeply concerned is that the majority of these photographs were taken in a playground that is open for use by children and members of the public.”
