Police have responded to a report of a World War Two grenade found by contractors laying irrigation in George Park on George Crescent, Fannie Bay this afternoon.

Members of the Territory Response Group, and Darwin General Duties as well as the Australian Defence Force (ADF) attended.  

The ADF secured the area at approximately 3:00pm this afternoon.

The grenade was found to have no fuse, and an assessment was given that there was no threat to surrounding residents.

The ADF have collected the device.
