Woman to Face Charges of Robbery on Man Tennant Creek

Police

A woman will appear in the Alice Springs Court this afternoon following an alleged robbery on an elderly man in Tennant Creek, which left him hospitalised.

Sergeant Glenn Leafe said Police arrested a 23-year-old woman yesterday following the alleged robbery in which the man, 79, suffered a laceration to his head requiring hospital treatment.

“Police allege the woman went to the man’s house in Tennant Creek at around 9pm on Thursday to get alcohol and cigarettes,” Sergeant Leafe said.

“When the man opened the door Police allege the woman and another person forced their way in and searched the unit.

“When the search failed to find alcohol, Police allege the pair began eating the man’s dinner. When the man tried to stop them they allegedly pushed him to the ground causing a large laceration to his head.

“Police also allege $40 was stolen from the man’s wallet.”

Sergeant Leafe said the man was a vulnerable member of the community and that the attack was low.

“The man uses a motorised wheelchair to get around. He was at home when the attack occurred,” he said.

“The community and Police view this type of crime as cowardly.

“The woman was charged with:

Robbery (cause harm);

Unlawful entry – night, occupied, dwelling, and;

Stealing.”

Investigations are continuing.
