Woman Charged For Drug Possession – Alice Springs

A 31-year-old woman has been charged by Police with possessing poison after Customs and Border Protection allegedly found thousands of ephedrine HCL tablets.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Richardson said a package containing the drugs was allegedly sent to the woman from an overseas address.

“Along with Customs and Boarder Protection, NT Police conducted a search warrant at an Alice Springs address yesterday and recovered the parcel, which was sent from Canada and allegedly contained 40 satchels each containing 50 tablets of ephedrine HCL,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Richardson said.

“Ephedrine HCL is a precursor chemical used to manufacture amphetamine-type substances, such as methamphetamine which is better known as ‘speed’. “

Police also seized a laptop computer.

The woman was charged with possess poison and was released on bail to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 29 May.
