Woman Charged - Assault – Alice Springs

Police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old female in relation to an assault which occurred in Alice Springs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Travis Wurst of the Southern Investigations Division said the incident occurred on Monday 20 August in the KFC car park.

“At around 9:30pm a 55-year-old female was parked in her Nissan Terrano Station wagon when she was approached by the alleged offender,” Detective Senior Sergeant Wurst said.

“It is alleged the woman entered the vehicle and asked to be driven to a nearby community. When the driver questioned the request, the offender produced a knife.

“During the incident it is alleged that a bag containing numerous items including jewellery and a sum of cash was stolen.”

Police conducted forensic analysis on the vehicle and arrested the woman yesterday.

She has been charged with aggravated assault, carry a controlled weapon, indecent assault and stealing. She received bail and is to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court 15 October 2012.
