Woman arrested for drink driving, driving unlicensed, child with seat belt not fastened - Tennant Creek

Police

NT Police have charged a woman for drink driving, driving unlicensed and driving with an unrestrained baby in the car.

Acting Superintendent Craig Barrett said at 7.30 this morning Tennant Creek Police pulled a vehicle over on Staunton Street and conducted a random breath test on the 37-year-old driver.

“She returned a reading of 0.072 per cent,” Acting Superintendent Barrett said.

Members will also allege she was driving with a one-year-old baby on the lap of a child who was in the front of the vehicle.

“The baby was not restrained and it was being held by an 11-year-old child who was a front seat passenger,” Acting Superintendent Barrett said.

“There was another adult in the back of the car.”

Acting Superintendent Barrett said the woman should have known better.

“It’s unfortunate that another road user doesn’t show any regard not only for her own life but for that of a baby and two other people in the car,” he said.

“At that time of the morning with children everywhere this could have ended with a much more serious incident.”

Acting Superintendent Barrett said the woman was charged with:

Drive with a low range blood alcohol content;

Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed, and;

Drive - child with seat belt not fastened.
