White Ribbon Day event - "March Against Violence"

Police

Join the Northern Territory Police in a march against violence along Mitchell Street today, Monday 26 November 2012, and ‘do your bit’ to help stop violence against women.

Commencing at 11.00am , the march will proceed along the Smith Street Mall.  NT Police will then be holding a complimentary sausage sizzle in Raintree Park afterwards to help raise awareness and funding for White Ribbon.

Assistant Commissioner Reece Kershaw encouraged all walks of life to join the march and contribute in some way to White Ribbon Day.

“One in three Australian women have experienced physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. The victims could be your mother, sister, daughter or a friend. By supporting the march you will be joining us on the path for prevention of violence against women and children,” said Assistant Commissioner Kershaw.

“I am pleased to be participating in this event as both an Ambassador for White Ribbon and also as the Ambassador for the implementation of the new Northern Territory Police strategy and framework for domestic and family violence response, aptly titled ‘Project Respect’.

“Under Project Respect, NT Police are committed to ensuring the safety of women and children in the community by taking direct action against the perpetrators of violence and providing all available support to sufferers.  This is about ensuring that we as Police take positive steps towards reducing harm caused to our community and show leadership by adopting a zero tolerance approach.

“By marching with us, you are joining Australia’s campaign to stop violence against women.”

White Ribbons and wristbands will be available at the event for just $2 each with all monies collected being provided to White Ribbon as fundraising.
