NT Police are looking for this man, Matthew Vanko.

Commander Richard Bryson said the man is believed to have been involved in an armed robbery resulting in a fatal shooting and hostage situation last night, Monday 23 April.

"The fatal shooting and hostage situation took place at a residence in the Howard Springs area," Commander Bryson said.

"Road blocks and extensive searches of the area by NT Police have failed to locate Matthew Vanko.

"He is believed to be armed and the public are asked not to approach him.

"He may be driving a white Toyota Landcruiser, registration CA 04 0A.

"He is a 35-year-old resident of the Darwin Northern Suburbs

"A crime scene has been established and a deceased male is yet to be identified. A female who was held hostage before managing to escape and alert Police is known to the alleged offender.

"As further information becomes available, updates will be provided on the official Northern Territory Police Force facebook page.

"If any members of the public see this man or this vehicle, they are asked to call Police on Triple Zero immediately.

"Matthew Vanko is urged to contact Police or present himself to a Police Station in order for this matter to be resolved."
