Update - Fatal rollover - Arnhem Highway

Police

Police report the man who died this morning in a fatal vehicle rollover in Marrakai has been identified as a 31-year-old from Canberra.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant John Worrall from the Major Crash Investigation Section said the incident is believed to have occurred some time after midnight near the Adelaide River Bridge.

“Although we’re still in the early stages of the investigation, it appears as though the man was travelling east on the Arnhem Highway in a Holden Commodore when the vehicle left the road, crashed into a culvert and landed 10 metres off the road,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

“A passing motorist contacted Police at around 7:00 am and the highway remained closed for several hours as investigators worked at the scene.

“At this stage it is believed speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The Arnhem Highway has since reopened.
