Two killed in fatal crash - Victoria Highway

Police

A section of the Victoria Highway, approximately four kilometres past the Binjari turnoff, remains closed after a two person fatal crash overnight.

Sergeant Mark Casey from the Major Crash Investigation Section said the crash was reported to Police at 10:40 pm and members from Katherine, NT Emergency Services and St John Ambulance immediately attended the scene.

"Initial investigations suggest that a 4WD vehicle towing a trailer has attempted to avoid a female pedestrian on the road, but the female was struck and killed instantly.

"The 4WD then lost control and impacted with a stationary vehicle, before colliding with another female pedestrian, who was also killed instantly.

"A male was taken to the Katherine Hospital as a result of injuries sustained.

"A section of the Victoria Highway will remain closed until further notice while investigations continue," said Sergeant Casey.

Members from the Major Crash Investigation Section the Northern Traffic Command are continuing with investigations, there is no further information at this time.

The Territory road toll now stands at three compared to zero for the same period last year.
