Two Injured After Helicopter Lands Heavily Alice Springs

Police

A helicopter landed heavily this afternoon resulting in injuries to two of the four people on board.

Alice Springs Watch Commander Michael Court said the Robinson 44, which was supporting this weekend’s Finke Desert Race, went down at about 1.20pm today.

“It appears the helicopter lost power, began to descend and then landed heavily,” Acting Senior Sergeant Court said.

“Two of the people onboard, including the pilot, have sustained minor injuries while the other two persons were uninjured.

“The incident happened about nine kilometres south of the Rodinga check point, which is the 98km point of the Finke race track.

“The helicopter was assisting with the transport of persons involved with the Finke Desert Race.

“Police and emergency services attended the scene.”

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has told NT Police it will not be investigating the incident.

No further information is available at this time.
