Three busted in Operation Sidecar

Police

Police are pleased to report that a majority of those enjoying the Finke Desert Race over the weekend were well behaved.

Sergeant Conan Robertson said Police from the Southern Traffic Operations Unit, Major Crash Investigations and General Duties conducted Operation Sidecar over the long weekend in Alice Springs, targeting traffic enforcement and community engagement.

“Police conducted 1425 breath tests, with two low range and one medium range drink driver caught,” Sergeant Robertson said.

“We issued 39 Traffic Infringement Notices, 14 summonses, four defect notices and six cautions. Two people were also arrested for traffic related offences.

“Although it was a relatively good result, three drink drivers are still three too many.

“Even though none of the people caught during ‘Sidecar’ were high range, these people were still affected by alcohol. The difference between a minor and a fatal crash can be just a momentary lapse in concentration.”
