Thieves Target Unlocked Homes - Nightcliff

Police

Police are again urging people to lock their homes after a number of unlawful entries at a unit complex in Nightcliff on Sunday morning.

Acting Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss said it appears two offenders have scaled the balconies of a five storey unit complex on Poinciana Street between the hours of 1am and 6am.

“There is evidence to suggest that the offenders attempted to enter 12 units, of those, five were unlocked,” Acting Senior Sergeant Furniss said.

“There were a number of items stolen from those units, including phones, cash and car keys.

“It’s clear that this was a case of opportunistic offending, and had the five home owners locked their doors, the offenders would have left the complex empty handed.

“The simple message is, lock your homes. It takes just a moment and can mean the difference between a good night’s sleep and a sleepless night worrying about the safety of your family.”

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the offenders, or who may witness suspicious activity in their own areas, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
