Taskforce Raven strikes in less than 24 hours

Police

Taskforce Raven has already seen the arrests of three recidivist drug and property related offenders in its first 24 hours of operation.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the Taskforce is made up of Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime and members of Tactical Teams. Task Force Raven was established to target property, drug and violent crime offenders within Darwin, Palmerston and surrounding areas.

“Police conducted a search warrant on a home in Wanguri yesterday afternoon after a 31-year-old man failed to appear in court,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Stringer said.

“Whilst searching, members located 7.6 grams of methamphetamine, allegedly in the possession of a 35-year-old male resident of the home.”

A further search of the residence revealed:

  • 9.3 grams of methamphetamine
  • 2.8 grams of prescription drugs
  • 1.3 grams of cannabis
  • 2 cannabis plants
  • 8 laptop computers
  • 11 mobile phones and a number of other electronic items.

The 35-year-old man was charged with possession of a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine. He was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

The 31-year-old man was located and charged with drug offences and offences relating to stolen property. He appeared in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.

“This is a timely reminder for people to lock their doors and secure their vehicles,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant said.

“If you are the victim of theft, make sure you report it to Police on 131 444.”

A 24-year-old male was also arrested yesterday in relation to an unlawful entry and stealing at a pharmacy in Coolalinga in December last year.

It is alleged he broke through the pharmacy’s glass windows and stole more than $1,000 worth of prescription medication.

He was summonsed to appear in court at a later date to face charges of aggravated unlawful entry of a building, criminal damage, stealing and possess dangerous drug precursor.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Stringer said the 24-year-old wore a disguise to conceal his identity but his efforts were thwarted due to some good detective work.

Police urge anyone who may witness any drug related activity, or property or violent crime, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
