Tanker Fire - Stuart Highway

Police and Fire and Rescue attended a tanker truck which caught fire on the Stuart Highway this morning.

Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said Police were notified of the incident which occurred 10 kilometres south of Elliott at around 8:30am.

“It is believed the tanker truck was half full and contained 10,000 litres of diesel,” Senior Sergeant Malley said.

“Police established a one kilometre exclusion zone as Fire crews worked to control the blaze.

“One lane of the exclusion zone was re-opened to motorists at around 10:30am.

“The blaze has caused significant damage to the truck and it is lucky nobody was injured in the incident.

“The cause of the fire is currently unknown and investigations will continue.”
