Police and Fire and Rescue members are investigating a house fire which occurred in Virginia last night.

The fire was reported at around 7:45 pm and upon Police and Fire and Rescue members’ arrival, the home on Morgan Road was completely engulfed in flames.

Station Officer Peter Van Boxtel said Fire fighters from Palmerston and Volunteers from Howard Springs extinguished the blaze.

“At this stage the fire appears to be non suspicious and if it wasn’t for some vigilant neighbours, the home may have been completely destroyed.

“I would like to thank the speedy response of the Fire fighters that attended and urge everyone, even those in the rural area, to ensure that your homes are fitted with working smoke alarms.”
