Police are investigating a structure fire which occurred at an old nightclub on Paterson Street in Tennant Creek early this morning.

Sergeant Glenn Leafe says at this stage Police believe the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Initial reports suggested the blaze may have started from an electrical fault, however evidence suggests it was not.

“We are treating the fire as suspicious and urge anyone that may have been in the area of ‘Rockits’ between the hours of 3-5am, or who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Sergeant Leafe said.

“Police and Fire and Rescue members attended the location at around 4:30am after receiving information there was smoke billowing from within the empty building.

“Fire and Rescue members extinguished the blaze in around an hour.” Said Sgt Leafe.

“Investigations are continuing.”
