Stealing with violence – Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating a report of a stealing with violence incident that occurred in Alice Springs this morning.

The victim, a 43-year-old male international tourist, waved down a passing Police patrol and reported that he was walking across Taffy Pick Crossing on Stephens Road at around 12:30am when he was approached by four youths. He was assaulted and his mobile phone was stolen.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male who remains in custody assisting with enquiries in relation to this matter.

Detective Acting Superintendent Travis Wurst said it was at this point it appears the male was asked for money and then allegedly assaulted.

“The victim sustained injuries to his face from the assault.” Detective A/Superintendent Wurst said.

“The offenders are described to be four aboriginal youths, three males and a female.

“We urge anyone that may have witnessed the assault, or who may have seen four youths in the area around the time of the incident, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
