A 21-year-old woman remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries following a domestic related incident which occurred in Alice Springs early this morning.

Detective Sergeant Carmen Butcher said it appears the woman, allegedly armed with two small knives, attended a residence on Flynn Drive at around 12:25am.

"It is alleged the woman smashed through a bedroom window and stabbed a 23-year-old female up to 17 times,” Detective Sergeant Butcher said.

“Police and St John Ambulance members attended and conveyed the victim to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

“The 21-year-old was arrested and taken into custody and is expected to be charged later today.”
