Speeding Drivers Not Getting the Message - Katherine

Police

Police in Katherine remain astounded at the amount of drivers exceeding the speed limit at the Edith River Bridge.

Since the 31st of December 2011, Police have been conducting traffic enforcement to support construction crews carrying out repair work to the nearby train line, which was damaged during the aftermath of Cyclone Grant.

"In two weeks, 80 charges have been issued for various traffic offences at the bridge.” Said Superintendent Brent Warren.

“Of those, a disturbing 65 drivers have been booked for speeding through the restricted speed zone.”

“Those drivers are not only a danger to themselves, but pose a real risk of injury or death to the construction crews working in the area.”

“Drivers need to slow down and adhere to the change in speed limit and conditions for all concerned.”

“One positive is that 123 drivers returned a negative result to alcohol breath testing.” Said Supt Warren.
