NT Police have charged six youths with escaping lawful custody and damaging property following their escape yesterday from the Alice Springs Juvenile Detention Centre.

Detective Sergeant Trent Abbott said Police recaptured the six yesterday but that 17-year-old Ian Pope, who also escaped, remained at large.

“Six of the youths, two 17 year-olds, three 16 year olds and a 14-year-old, were found in Alice Springs are now back in custody,” Detective Sergeant Abbott said.

“At this stage we have not located Ian Pope.

“Again we are asking assistance from the public to help locate this person as quickly as possible. If any suspicious activity is noted, contact Police immediately on 131444.

“Members of the public are urged not to approach the youth but are asked to contact Police.”

The six were charged with:

Escape lawful custody;

Damage property.

They will appear in court at a later date.
