Sexual Assault - Alice Springs

Alice Springs Police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted his pregnant former partner.

It’s alleged the 22-year-old man dragged the 19-year-old woman into the doorway of a business on the corner of Stott Terrace and Hartley Street, early yesterday morning.

“The incident took place between 3am and 8.40am on Wednesday.” Said Detective Sergeant Janelle Snigg.

“The victim is 13 weeks pregnant but is now estranged from the accused man.”

“The woman suffered minor facial injuries as a result of being repeatedly punched in the head, as well as being sexually assaulted.”

“She was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.” Said Det Sgt Snigg.

“The man is known to police but is described as Aboriginal, about 178cm tall, average build and wearing a black, white and grey chequered button up shirt and dark trousers.  He has a tuft of dark brown hair at the front of his head”

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the area but urge anyone who has any information or may have witnessed the assault, to call the Police Assistance Line on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
