Seven Charged for Unlawful Entries - Nhulunbuy

Investigations by Police have lead to the charges being laid against seven people for a number of unlawful entries in and around Nhulunbuy.

Officer in Charge of Nhulunbuy Police Brendan Muldoon said six youths and one adult had been arrested and charged for 16 unlawful entries in Nhulunbuy and Yirrkala between 21 and 30 April.

“The charges are against seven males aged between 15 and 18 years of age,” Senior Sergeant Muldoon said.

“They relate to properties including at the Yirrkala CEC School, Laynhapuy Association Office, East Arnhem Shire Council, MAF Airport Hangar Office, Laynhapuy Aviation Office, MAF Terminal (shop), Golf Club, the IGA and a private residence.

“The offenders were involved in allegedly stealing a number of items including a car, three four-wheel drives, a cordless drill and drill bits, jerry cans containing fuel, fuel, cash, mobile phones, boxes of chocolates, frozen chicken rolls, soft drinks, five bottles of spirits and two cartons of beer

“Damage was done to a number of the properties, including fences being cut, windows and doors smashed and jemmied open, security mesh and grills smashed and removed, a TV smashed and padlocks cut.

“All the males are expected to be charged and to appear in Nhulunbuy Local Court today and Thursday.”
