Serious Harm - Katherine

Police

Katherine Police have arrested a 43 year-old man following an alleged glassing incident.

Police arrived at a licensed premise just before 6pm on Wednesday to find the victim with severe lacerations to the face and the alleged offender in the hands of security staff.

The 49 year-old victim was rushed to the Katherine hospital while the alleged offender was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken into custody.

Acting Sergeant Mathew Unwin said the weapon used in the attack was a beer bottle.

"The victim has suffered a horrific injury and has been medically evacuated to Royal Darwin Hospital.

“Alcohol was a clear factor in this dispute but the result is totally unacceptable and there can be no excuse for this sort of behaviour."

The alleged offender has been charged with Unlawfully Causing Serious Harm and related weapon offences.

He was bailed to appear in the Katherine Magistrates Court on August the 8th.
