Detectives from the Southern Investigations Division have charged a man in relation to several property offences committed in the Gillen area during the month of October 2012.

Superintendent Brent Warren said Police will allege a 34-year-old man targeted the IGA Supermarket on Flynn Drive on three separate occasions in a bid to steal alcohol.

“It is alleged that on 17 October the man used a hammer to break through a concrete wall and steal several bottles of spirits, before being disturbed by a security guard,” Superintendent Warren said.

“On 20 October, it is alleged the man attempted to break into the same business and threw a hammer at a car when he was disturbed once again by a security guard.

“On his third attempt, it is alleged the man took things to another level by stealing a vehicle and using it to ram through the rear wall of the business on 24 October. The ram raid caused approximately $40,000 damage to the building.

“The man has been charged with:

·         Aggravated enter building intent to commit and offence (x2)

·         Stealing (x2)

·         Damage to property(x4)

·         Attempt crime (unlawful entry)

·         Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle (used in commission of an offence)

“The man will also face additional charges of aggravated unlawful entry, stealing and damage property in relation to the unlawful entry of the Gillen Club on 4 October. 

“This follows the arrest of a 25-year-old man from a remote community on Friday afternoon, he was charged with aggravated unlawful entry, stealing and damage property in relation to the same incident.”
