Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man who escaped from the Alice Springs Correctional Centre on Thursday 4 October 2012.

Alice Springs Watch Commander Darrell Kerr said the escapee was arrested this morning after a member of the public spotted him near the Casino at about 4:20 am.

“On Police attendance the escapee ran off and after a lengthy foot chase through the Todd River and a unit complex, he was arrested near Barrett Drive.”

The man was charged with escape custody and possess cannabis this afternoon. He has been remanded to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday 22 October 2012.
