Possible Hit and Run - Palmerston

Police

Major Crash Unit Detectives are investigating a hit and run which has put a 70-year-old woman in hospital this morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Section said the incident occurred just before 1:30am.

“The 70-year-old victim was found lying in an outbound lane of Chung Wah Terrace between Temple Terrace and Rolyat Street,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

“Initial enquiries indicate the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by a car, which has then fled the scene.

“The woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where she remains in the intensive care unit.

“Evidence from the scene indicates the car will have received significant damage, including a broken windscreen.

“Investigators from the Major Crash Unit and Major Crime Squad are continuing enquiries. Police urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident, or who may know the driver or vehicle involved, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
