Police Assault - Katherine

Police

A 31-year-old Katherine man remains in Police custody following an assault on a Police Officer.

Superintendent Gavin Kennedy said Police spoke to the man outside BP Katherine on 29 October at around 6:45am and was assessed as being heavily intoxicated.

"Police proceeded to take the man into protective custody where he allegedly began to resist being placed in the back of the Police cage.

“The male has then allegedly spat at a 32-year-old female Officer with the spittle landing on her shirt. The female Officer directed the male not to spit at her again.

“The alleged offender then spat at the female officer again which landed directly in her eye. He was subdued after continuing to fight and resist Police Officers.

“The female Officer has been forced to seek medical treatment as a result of the most disgusting of acts that Police all too frequently encounter,” Superintendent Kennedy said.

He will appear in Katherine Court later today on a charge of assaulting Police.
