Operation Watto Arrests - Winnellie Homicide

Two males have been arrested in relation to the alleged homicide of a man who died in a suspicious vehicle fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Late yesterday afternoon Operation Watto Investigators, in conjunction with the Territory Response Group, arrested the two men.  Charges are yet to be laid.

“The investigation is far from over and we will be executing several warrants today in an attempt to locate further evidence,” said Superintendent James O’Brien.

“I can now confirm that we have two males, aged 40 and 41 years old, in custody.  Both men are assisting us with our enquiries into the death of the 46-year-old victim. 

The victim’s remains were located in the boot of a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan.

“Investigators are currently liaising with the next of kin however at this time we are unable to release the victim’s name.

Operation Watto remains ongoing and the police continue to seek assistance from the public.
