Due to the success of Operation Trident, NT Police are now participating in a national multi-agency operation, targeting people who have failed to appear in court.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Bravos said Operation Avert will run from Friday 19 through to midnight Sunday 21 October.

“Police from every station within the NT will, over a 72 hour period, locate and bring to justice, persons who have outstanding arrest warrants,” Assistant Commissioner Bravos said.

“Operation Avert will run concurrently with Operation Trident, which began on Tuesday 18 September targeting offenders involved in property crime, anti social behaviour, assaults and those persons who had outstanding warrants for their arrests.”

During the four week Territory wide operation, Police arrested 217 people for offences and 116 people for outstanding warrants.

“Importantly, Police executed 38 search warrants on properties across the Territory and recovered $85,392 worth of stolen property. In addition, Police took 562 people into protective custody and issued 203 Infringement Notices and 40 Notices to Appear for various offences,” Assistant Commissioner Bravos said.

“The success of Operation Trident has had a lot to do with the assistance Police have received from members of the public. The intelligence we have been able to gather from keen eyes within the community has proven very useful.

“With Operation Avert about to commence, I urge anyone who may have an outstanding warrant to go to their nearest Police Station to have the matter resolved.

“I also urge anyone who may have information relating to criminal activity or alleged offenders who have failed to appear in court, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Remember, you can remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a reward.”
