Operation Stinger Arrests - Maningrida

Police

Maningrida Police in conjunction with Officers from the Katherine based Operation Stinger are currently targeting property crime offenders in the community.

Responding to reports of unlawful entries at unoccupied homes during the holiday season, Officers conducted a sweep through the community yesterday resulting in the arrest of five males aged 16, 17, 19, 21 and 25.

They have been charged with various offences including Unlawful Entry, Criminal Damage and Stealing.

Strict curfew conditions were imposed as part of bail conditions.  The males are set to appear in the Maningrida Magistrates Court on the 8th of February.

"Community members are encouraged to properly secure their premises when going away on holiday", said Superintendent Colin Smith from the Arafura Division.

"If you are aware that you will be away for an extended period it is recommended that you notify a friend, relative or work mate who can keep an eye on your home in your absence.”

The operation will continue with a focus on unlawful entries committed at business premises in the community and further arrests are anticipated.

"This kind of offending in a small community is extremely disappointing.  Local Police will continue to target these offence types, applying strict bail conditions and placing offenders before the courts" Superintendent Smith added.
