Katherine Police arrested 16 people, took 25 into protective custody and issued 20 infringement notices after a two-day blitz on anti-social behaviour in the town’s centre.

Acting Superintendent Gavin Kennedy said Operation Lion also saw a total of 269 litres of alcohol destroyed in the mid-week two-day operation including the un-opened seizures depicted in the photograph.

“Lion was established to target crime trends and spikes in the Katherine Township and this operation was phase three of the operation,” Acting Superintendent Kennedy said.

“Katherine Police members will continue to run un-announced operations targeting those persons and locations prone to alcohol and other substance abuse.”
