Operation Lion Ends Katherine

Police

Katherine Police have wrapt up Operation Lion.

Acting Superintendent Gavin Kennedy said the operation, which ran from February 16 to March 17, was established as an ongoing effort to target and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Katherine.

“Operation Lion used resources from Katherine Division for a multi-phase targeted response to property crime, violent crime and anti-social behaviour,” Superintendent Kennedy said.

“The month long Operation resulted in:

34 arrests for a range of offences;

15 liquor infringement notices issued;

1 traffic infringement notice issued;

5 summary infringement notices issued;

28 people taken into protective custody;

42 proactive compliance checks;

280 litres of alcohol tipped out.

“The results of this Operation make Police even more determined to continue to crack down on property crime, offences against the person and anti-social behaviour.

“Katherine Division is already planning the next Operation with new targets.”
