Operation Jedi, the three month operation based in Alice Springs, has seen the arrest of more than 100 people for numerous offences.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said the operation, which finished last night, was a resounding success.

“The operation was made up of Police from the Southern Investigations Division, Intelligence Division and General Duties and was established to reduce unlawful entry and drug related crime throughout Alice Springs,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“During the operation, 109 people were arrested and five Traffic Infringement Notices and seven Drug Infringement Notices were issued.”

Police executed 12 search warrants, located 174.5 grams of cannabis and a small amount of methylamphetamine, and seized five weapons.

Jedi members conducted 360 bail checks, resulting in the arrest of 47 people for breach of bail conditions.

“The key factor in the success of Operation Jedi has been the high tempo and proactive approach Police have taken towards known offenders,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“I’d also like to thank members of the public for their assistance over the last three months.

“It is noteworthy that Alice Springs has recorded the lowest number of unlawful entries for an October in several years.

 “Although the operation is now over, Police warn offenders that they will not be easing up on their approach to reducing crime.”
