Operation Jedi - Update

Police

Investigators from Operation Jedi have made a total of 52 arrests and seized over 150 grams of cannabis since the operation began last month.

Detective Senior Sergeant Trent Abbott said the operation is now in its sixth week and aims to reduce the incidence of property and street level drug crime in Alice Springs.

“The operation consists of members from the Southern Intelligence Division (SID), Intelligence Division and General Duties and targets offenders involved in unlawful entries; property damage; drug dealing; possession and the use of drugs in public places; street level distribution; and the exchange of stolen property for illicit substances,” Detective Senior Sergeant Abbott said.

“All 52 arrests are a significant step in targeting those offenders who actively participate in crimes throughout the community.

“It sends a clear message that the crimes they commit are not going unnoticed and Police are determined to identify, locate and arrest those involved in similar crimes.

“Since the operation began, Police have seized a total of 166 grams of cannabis, a small quantity of methamphetamine and several weapons.

“Among those items believed to be stolen and seized by Police include: laptop computers; mobile phones; jewellery; and cash.

“Investigators have identified and actioned around 200 offences and conducted around 150 bail checks with 11 breaches detected.

“Members of the public with any information about property or drug related offending are encouraged to pass this on via Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or their local Police Station. Information can be received anonymously.”
