Operation Jedi - Alice Springs

Police

Investigators from Operation Jedi have arrested and charged three youths in relation to two unlawful entries which occurred in Alice Springs last week.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Trent Abbott of the Southern Investigations Division (SID) said two youths aged 13 years and one aged 14 years have been charged with unlawful entry and stealing.

“The three youths were located by Police after they allegedly unlawfully entered a house in Araluen, having stolen jewellery and a set of house and car keys,” Acting Senior Sergeant Abbott said.

“It is believed the youths were also responsible for an unlawful entry nearby which occurred just hours prior to their arrest on 24 August 2012.

“Belongings reported to have been stolen in both unlawful entries have been recovered by Police.

“The three alleged offenders have been released on bail and are due to appear in court on 7 September 2012.

“Operation Jedi is now its third week and aims to reduce the incidence of property and street level drug crime in Alice Springs. Since beginning the operation, members of Operation Jedi have made 23 arrests.

“The operation consists of members from the SID, Intelligence Division and General Duties and targets offenders involved in unlawful entries; property damage; drug dealing; possession and the use of drugs in public places; street level distribution; and the exchange of stolen property for illicit substances.”
