Official Opening of the PFES Operations Centre - Damian Clifton Centre - Alice Springs

Police

The new Police, Fire and Emergency Services Operations Centre will be officially opened in Alice Springs on Saturday 23 June 2012 by the Director of the Northern Territory Emergency Service, Mr Peter Davies

The facility will be used to manage and coordinate responses to emergencies and disasters in the Southern Region of the Territory, as well as accommodate a regional Police, Fire and Emergency Services training facility and will be the headquarters for the Alice Springs Northern Territory Emergency Service Volunteer Unit.

Director of the Northern Territory Emergency Service, Mr Peter Davies said the building is named after Damian Clifton, a prominent NTES volunteer from Alice Springs who sadly lost his battle with cancer in September 2011.

“The ‘Damian Clifton Centre’ will provide the Southern Region with a state-of-the-art multi-functional capability that will enhance emergency management for greater community safety,” said Mr Davies.

The facility has been built from funding provided through the Natural Disaster Resilience Program, a National Partnership Agreement between the Commonwealth and the Northern Territory Government. The building was jointly project managed by the Northern Territory Emergency Service and the Department of Construction and Infrastructure.

A significant amount of the work during the construction period was undertaken by the volunteers from the Alice Springs Emergency Service Volunteer Unit.
