Officers Left Speechless - Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police have been left astonished at the irresponsible behaviour of a 31-year-old motorist this morning.

The man was pulled over by Police just before nine o’clock on Grevillia Drive, after a female adult passenger was seen allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.

“Upon further inquiries it’s alleged the man was unlicensed and had two children aged four and five in the backseat, also unrestrained.” Said Senior Sergeant Darrell Kerr.

“To top it off, it will be alleged the man returned a positive alcohol breath test reading of zero-point-one-four-four percent.”

“This man was driving children to school.”

“People need to take responsibility for their own actions. There is no excuse for this kind of ignorance to the law, let alone putting the lives of children and other road users at risk. It’s a disgusting act.” Said Sen Sgt Kerr.

“Police strive to educate people on the risks associated with drink driving, the dangers and damage it causes. If people don’t want to take note of those warnings, Police will take them off the road and put them before the courts.”

He’s been charged with one count of Driving a Motor Vehicle while Unlicensed, one count of Driving with a Medium Range Blood Alcohol Content and two counts of having a Passenger Under 16 Unrestrained.
