Tomorrow, the 28th of September, marks the 23rd anniversary of National Police Remembrance Day in Australia.

National Police Remembrance Day commemorates Police Officers throughout Australasia and the South-West Pacific region, who have been killed in the line of duty or died while serving.

“It’s a day when all members of the Northern Territory Police both serving and retired, their families and the wider community should pause and reflect on the dangers of Police work.” Said NT Police Commissioner John McRoberts APM.

“Eight Territory Police Officers have been killed in the execution of their duty. The last being Brevet Sergeant Glen Huitson in 1999.”

“Sadly this year, the Territory Police Force farewelled two serving Officers. On this day our prayers and thoughts will be with the families of Sergeant Michael Cornford and Sergeant Mary-Anne Skelton.” Said Commissioner McRoberts.

“I would like to invite all members of the public to join forces with Police Officers and commemorate Police Remembrance Day in services to be held across the Territory.”

National Police Remembrance Day will be held on Friday 28 September, 2012.

Darwin
St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral Smith Street, Darwin City, commencing at 9.45am
A march to escort the Police Colour Party will commence at 9.30am from Darwin Police Station along Mitchell Street to St Mary's Cathedral prior to the ceremony.

Alice Springs
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, commencing 10am.
A march to escort the Police Colour Party will begin from the Alice Springs Police Station at 9.45am going to the Church.

Katherine
At the gravesite of Constable Bill Condon, Katherine Cemetery, commencing at 10am.

Tennant Creek
Christ the King Catholic Church, 57 Schmidt St, commencing at 9am.
