Murder Charge - Howard Springs

Police

Detectives from the Major Crime Squad have this afternoon charged a 35-year-old man with murder, following an incident at a Howard Springs property on Monday night, April the 23rd.

Police were alerted after a woman was able to break free from her ligatures and raise the alarm that she had been taken hostage, tied up and robbed.

Upon searching the rural property, Police discovered the body of a 55-year-old man.

“An extensive manhunt and media coverage led Police to a Nightcliff residence where the 35-year-old surrendered to Officers without further incident.” Said Crime Commander Richard Bryson.

“Painstaking investigations have seen Detectives searching multiple residential crime scenes along with drains, rubbish bins and vast areas of bushland in the Northern Suburbs.” Said Cmdr Bryson.

“An autopsy conducted upon the deceased has returned a preliminary finding that the 55-year-old died from a stab wound to the back of the head.”

The accused has been refused bail and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow.

He’s facing numerous charges including Murder, Deprivation of Liberty, Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Entry.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members of the public who came forward and provided invaluable assistance to Police during the investigation.” Said Cmdr Bryson.
