Five males are in the custody of Nhulunbuy Police assisting Major Crime detectives with their enquiries relating to the alleged abduction of Victoria Turner early yesterday morning.

Police intercepted the vehicle of interest in this alleged abduction on the Central Arnhem Highway in the vicinity of Melville Bay Road at approximately 11.30pm last night.  Information from the occupants of the vehicle led Police to the Dhaniya Outstation where at approximately 5.30 am this morning five persons were taken into Police custody.

"Five males have been taken back to Nhulunbuy Police station and are currently speaking with Major Crime Detectives,” said Superintendant James O’Brien.

"Once detectives speak with all of the males, we expect to have a clearer picture of what exactly transpired in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"Mrs Turner has been treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident and has been reunited with her family.

"I would like to thank those members of the public who have been assisting Police with this investigation."
