Missing Party Located Safe and Well - Alice Springs

Police

Three international tourists reported missing in Central Australia have been found safe and well.

The Officer in Charge of Hermannsburg Police, Sergeant Melissa Sanderson, said the two Korean nationals, a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, and a 27-year-old Chinese woman, were found walking along a road 8.5 kilometres south west of Boggy Hole.

“Officers from Hermannsburg Police Station were checking remote waterholes when they found the trio walking along the road in the Finke River National Park at around 11 today,” Sergeant Sanderson said.

“The Toyota Prado they were driving had become bogged on a sandy hill.

“When Police found the trio they had already walked 15.5 kilometres. They had plenty of water and were healthy but relieved to see Police.”

Sergeant Sanderson said due to language barriers Police were yet to determine exactly when the group’s car became bogged.

“It appears they did camp overnight with their car,” she said.

“The trio left Alice Springs on Friday morning for Uluru and were due back at 7pm yesterday but failed to return.

“A friend reported the trio missing last night.

“Obviously Police were concerned for their well-being given the hot conditions in Central Australia today.

“This is an excellent example of the importance of letting people know where you are going and what time you are due back.

“Police do recommend if you have problems with your vehicle that you stay with your vehicle.

“We are extremely happy the three have been found safe and well.”
