Missing Man - Alpurrurulam (Lake Nash) - Search Suspended

Police

NT Police have suspended the search for 38-year-old Lawrence Campbell, who hasn’t been seen since departing Alpurrurulam for Urandangi (QLD) on Saturday.

Superintendent Craig Barrett said Police initiated the search and rescue effort on Wednesday after family members became concerned that Mr Campbell had not returned to the community.

“Extensive air and ground searches continued for three days utilising a fixed wing aircraft, a helicopter and a number of vehicles until it was determined the search would be suspended this afternoon,” said Superintendent Barrett.

“Local Police, cattle station workers, members of the community and Queensland Police members from Camooweal have been involved in the search since Wednesday and have covered over 28,000 square kilometres of area. The dedication of those assisting in the search is to be commended.

“Family members told Police that Mr Campbell left the community at around midday on Saturday. He was travelling in a white Holden commodore utility to Urandangi for a cricket match.

“Investigations have revealed that Mr Campbell never arrived at the cricket match and he hasn’t been since Saturday, he also hasn’t accessed his bank account.

“It is always a difficult decision to suspend a search; however, investigations are still continuing and if further information comes to hand the search may be reinitiated.

The public are urged to contact Police on 131 444 should they have any information relating to the whereabouts of Lawrence Campbell.
